<p>There’s a quote that applies to the start of a new year and beyond. It says:</p>
<p>“<em><strong>In absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily acts of trivia</strong></em>” &#8211; <strong>Author Unknown</strong></p>
<p>One of the greatest challenges faced by anyone who wants to serve local businesses is having goals. These re are just so many &#8216;possibilities&#8217; that having <strong>real goals</strong> seems like an impossible task.</p>
<h3>Tasks and Actions Are Not Goals&#8230;</h3>
<p>You know this to be true. You know that <strong>it’s rarely a lack of knowledge</strong> about what problems local businesses face. 90% of your potential local business customers or clients would love to sell more and make more money. You have knowledge of marketing and business development solutions that can help them and you’re fairly confident you can deliver on your promise if given the chance.</p>
<p><strong>So where’s the problem?</strong></p>
<p>It’s in not having clearly defined goals both for yourself and your business. Solve that and you’re going to be more focused and more productive, not matter what you want to offer.</p>
<h3>Does This Seem Familiar?</h3>
<p>A subscriber of mine sent me an email just before the end of 2011. it was in response to an email I’d sent wishing my loyal subscribers and business partners a great time and a prosperous 2012.</p>
<p>In her reply she thanked me for the ‘nudge’ and wrote about how she “hopes” 2012 is the year that things actually materialize for her and her family because in her own words:</p>
<blockquote><p><strong><em>“I am feeling physically and emotionally sick and tired of under-achieving. Spinning my wheels, taking on more knowledge but not being able to take action because of all sorts of fear, lack of self confidence and just bad time management. I hope you can help me become a better person this year and I am committed to doing whatever you say I should do. </em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em>I need your help”</em></strong></p></blockquote>
<p>You know how bad it is when you feel physically sick because of a problem you’re facing? I do and I know it can be debilitating. It jams your thinking and paralyzes you from taking action.</p>
<p>Overall, unless you have some way forward or out of the situation it most likely will get worse.</p>
<p>My words back to this subscriber were that she should realize that she should follow a very <strong>simple formula</strong>:</p>
<ol>
<li>Get clear about what exactly you want to do in you local business consulting (sticking to her business only here)<br />
<span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></li>
<li>Figure out the gaps in what you need to KNOW and DO<br />
<span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></li>
<li>Do whatever you need to do to close those gaps e.g. prioritize your time better, actually talk to local business owners, hire a coach, mentor, someone you wouldn&#8217;t want to disappoint, someone you respect etc to help you AND hold you accountable <span style="text-decoration: underline;">each week</span><br />
<span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></li>
<li> Take action (Implement) e.g. host your own lead generating events, move prospects through your marketing and sales funnel, eliminate unqualified prospects ASAP<br />
<span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></li>
<li>Measure your results and make adjustments as appropriate because you can’t improve on things you don’t measure</li>
</ol>
<p>Many of these are the same success tools my students used to get revenues between $50 to $100,000 in 2012. Many of them with little knowledge of business development, marketing or what you know in the IM circle as &#8216;offline marketing.&#8217;  And if they could do it, I believe you can too.</p>
<h3>Next Steps</h3>
<p>You should always offer help at no cost when you can. There&#8217;s a think called Karma that works whether you believe it or not. Its a great way to also pre-pave your way to attracting more business and clients.</p>
<p>I did go into a lot more detail in my private response and I’ve invited her to schedule some time for us to talk if she is really serious about maximizing her results this year.</p>
<p>That’s the first step and if she can’t find the time to do that, then she will have proven to herself (forget about proving to me) that she isn’t serious about wanting to <strong>rise above this year</strong>.</p>

<p>What do you need to do in 2012 to ‘rise above?’ No matter when you read this post, the steps I mentioned in my reply earlier on will still be 100% applicable.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a challenge for you &#8230;</p>
<p>Can you <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>make a public commitment right here, right now to rise above</strong></span>, or are you comfortable not having any accountability to anyone including yourself, your family and those that are out there in your local area, waiting for you to serve them</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">2011 was my best year yet in local business development and marketing consulting (offline marketing). It was a blessing to be able to work with so many different business owners across different service industries and niches. In 2012, my focus is squarely on professional service businesses (and businesses that offer services) because after working with Chiropractors, Dentists, Law Firms etc, it just makes so much sense to continue this way (more information will be available here but primarily through the <strong>Instant Offline Guru Academy</strong> &#8211; <a href="http://InstantOfflineGuruAcademy.com" target="_blank">http://InstantOfflineGuruAcademy.com</a>)</p>
<p>I also had the opportunity to work with some wonderful Offline Consultants that were prepared to do what it took to get the goals they were seeking.</p>

<p>We had a coaching session not too long ago dedicated specifically to this specific topic, i.e. the Fear of Selling Your Offline Marketing services to local businesses. The reason is that its an area of increasing challenge.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m glad that people are starting to realize that no matter how great a &#8216;new-shiny-object&#8217; offline script or tool is, if you can&#8217;t get local businesses to give you &#8216;face-time&#8217; then the script or tool is worthless. You&#8217;ve got to sell to be successful. Period.</p>
<p>Take a look at these problems with selling. You&#8217;ll note that none of them can be solved by software, a cool tool or even an MBA!</p>
<h3><strong>Only a Small Selection of &#8216;Fear Factors&#8217; &#8211; How Many Do You Recognize?<br />

<li><em>Lack of or low self-esteem (belief in yourself)<br />

<li><em>Feeling of fear that offline prospects/current customers are too busy to talk to you</em></li>
<li><em>Fear that a local business owner will be &#8216;mean&#8217; or &#8216;rude&#8217; to you</em></li>

<p>Before you start to read this let me tell you up-front that it’s a mini-rant. I’m sick and tired of reading about how people are struggling to be successful working with businesses, locally, nationally or internationally.</p>
<p>There are more opportunities right on your doorstep than you could ever handle…if only you took the time to do 2 things (I talk about them later on). Before we get to that, let me ask you a few things…</p>
<p>How long on average do you spend in ‘Offline Marketing’ forums? A few hours a day? A couple of hours a day? I don’t have anything against group learning per se but I can tell you that the quality of many of the forums that I know of has gone way down that it’s a total waste of time going to them. There are still some good ones but they are few and far between.</p>
<p>From where I’m standing, ‘Offline Marketing’ is the new Internet Marketing for many people – Are you one of them?</p>
<p>You see, if you’re spending a large proportion of your time in forums looking for the best way to get clients and grow your business, you’re wasting your time and your potential. I guarantee that if you made some fundamental changes to your mindset, within 90 days, you could <strong>have the business of your dreams GUARANTEED</strong>.</p>
<p>If you’ve followed me for any amount of time you now that I don’t do hype of B.S. I say it like it is because I believe in ethics and I don’t have any perceived guru status to protect. I’m pi**ed off with the way people are being misled into believing that offering marketing and consulting services to businesses is like shooting fish in a barrel.</p>
<p>Rubbish…It takes working hard and working smart and you will never succeed without a plan backed by action. At the end of the day we’re professional service business specialists and specialists get paid a lot of money for their expertise that translates a client problem into a profitable solution.</p>
<p>Can you do that?</p>
<h3>Entrepreneur or Technician?</h3>
<p><span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></p>
<p>What role do you play in your business? Are you the entrepreneur or the technician? i.e. the doer? Play your cards right and you’ll have people lining up to speak to you, but ‘playing your cards right’ means you have an outreach program that you aggressively implement consistently.</p>
<p>Do you have one or do you jump on the latest low-ticket special offering that arrives in your inbox or that you see in your favourite forum?</p>
<h3>The whole truth…</h3>
<p><span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></p>
<p>In January of 2008, when I officially first started in this business (in other words, I stopped kicking around with the idea in my head and actually took action) I too used to hang out in some of the popular forums&#8230;actually one of them in particular. The reason was because that was the ‘hot seat’ at the time for information on ‘Offline Gold’ as we used to call it.</p>
<p>While there was lots of posturing back then by people who felt they were self-appointed ‘leaders’ in this business, the quality of the information was way better than it is today and anyone who has been around the IM forums knows this to be true.</p>
<p>Nowadays, even people that can’t rub two nickels together can slap something together and claim it’ll make you a fortune…</p>
<p><em><strong>“Wake up and smell the coffee &#8212; It ain’t gonna happen anytime soon and probably never will to be quite frank with you!”</strong></em></p>
<p>Why am I telling you this now?</p>
<p>I’m angry, that’s why.</p>
<p>I’ve been focusing on growing my niche marketing and consulting business and showing others how to do the same and so have been out of the forum circuit for some time. Coming back, I’m shocked to see all these ‘strategies’ being touted as the best thing since sliced bread. Even worse, I’m seeing a lot of the crud being endorsed by so-called experts who should know better.</p>
<p>Look, I know you want to be successful, but everyday that you spend hanging in the non-productive forum communities when you should be growing yourself and your niche marketing and consulting business, is another day that you will pay for dearly in the future.</p>
<p>You can’t escape it.</p>
<p>Secondly, if you’re really serious about taking your consulting business to the next level (whatever that might be for you) you’ve got to focus and follow a plan of action and you don’t get that by following CKM or ‘Common Knowledge Marketing’ as I like to call it.</p>
<h3>So What Should You Do?</h3>
<p><span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span><br />
Decide today that you’ve had enough of the struggle. YOU are the only one who can make positive change happen in your life and your future or existing business.</p>
<p>The ‘average’ person can become successful at offering niche marketing and consulting services. You’re reading this now so I know that YOU ARE ABOVE AVERAGE.</p>
<p>If you’re not where you want to be with your efforts and desires to own a successful and thriving professional service business (you can call it an offline business if that makes you feel more comfortable) decide now that you’re going to create connections with your ideal clients.</p>
<h3>How do you do it?</h3>
<p><span style="color: #ffffff;">.</span></p>
<p>You need to <strong>quit jumping from one thing to another</strong> and do the following:</p>
<ol>
<li>WHO are your target clients?</li>
<li>WHAT they’re looking for?</li>
<li>WHERE do they go to look for what you have to offer?</li>
<li>WHEN do they look for your type of offline services e.g. is it seasonal?</li>
<li>WHY should they choose you over your competition?</li>
<li>HOW do you want them to engage with you (You have a say in the matter and decide who you want to work with)</li>
</ol>
<p>From being a professional service business consultant since June of 1995 and offline marketing since January 2008 AND having made probably all the mistakes anyone could make in this line of business, you can rest assured that these 6 keys will make sure that whatever you offer as an offline consultant will be bang on target.</p>

<li> It isn&#8217;t a lack of services or products to offer</li>
<li> It isn&#8217;t a lack of time (everyone has 24 hours in a day)</li>
<li> It isn&#8217;t a bad economy (because businesses are spending money)</li>
<li>It isn&#8217;t too much competition</li>
</ul>
<p>I believe it is down to not knowing which foot to put in front of the other &#8230; so as to speak.</p>
<h3>A Simple Blueprint for Success</h3>
<p>Here is a complete blueprint you need to start making at least $1,000 starting in 30 days from now. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity. I never managed to figure out how to make things sound sexier than they are, and in reality, the best solutions are simple to understand and simple to implement.</p>
<p><strong>1. Niche</strong></p>
<p>Figure out your &#8216;Target Market&#8217; &#8211; Not ideal client, I mean the general pool of business owners you want to serve</p>
<p><strong>2. Ideal Client</strong></p>
<p>Figure out your Ideal Client within that niche. This is the person that you want to really help solve their most pressing problems using your skills, knowledge e.t.c</p>
<p><strong>3. Get in Front of Them</strong></p>
<p>Shooting off a blind sales letter just isn&#8217;t going to get you great results. You will get some results, but how many you&#8217;ll get out of 100 or 1000 is pure guess-work. Why leave your success to guess work in this day and age?</p>
<p><strong>4. Qualify Them for Being A Good Fit to Work With You</strong></p>
<p>You need to have a qualification process in place so that you can easily weed out the &#8216;incompatibles&#8217; and focus on setting and getting appointments with those that won&#8217;t be &#8216;<strong>toxic</strong>&#8216; as clients.</p>
<p>You want to only be having discussions with people who</p>
<p><strong>a. </strong>Have problems and are aware of it</p>
<p><strong>b. </strong>Are actively seeking problems</p>
<p><strong>c. </strong>Are open to exploring what you have to offer as solutions</p>

<p>The only way any or all of this is going to happen is if you take the first step and understand that having a niche that you focus on is not a &#8216;nice-to-have&#8217; &#8230; It is crucial for your success as an Offline Marketing consultant.</p>
